About Swaffham
Swaffham is a Norfolk market town of over 7,000 people.it’s a town that seems to inspire TV producers and directors and has been the backdrop to programmes like Dad’s Army, Love on a Branch Line, Hello Hello and more recently Stephen Fry in Kingdom where they tried to convince us that Swaffham was right on the coast as they swapped images of Swaffham with Wells-next-the-Sea. While in Swaffham visitors can visit the EcoTech centre where they can climb 300 steps to the top of the wind turbine tower. From the top of the tower, on a clear day you can see Ely Cathedral some 30 miles away.
Swaffham has a central market place dominated by the Butter Market Cross. A building where butter was traded in years gone by. Admiral Nelson, John Wesley and Robert Walpole were among the gentry who were also part of Swaffham’s social life in the past.
Today, Swaffham is a quiet town with a number business centres as well as a large Waitrose Supermarket just away from the centre. It has a number of fine restaurants and tea shops and parking in the town is both free and easy.
